Donald Hirschkorn, 64, rural Goodrich, ND died peacefully on Wednesday, July 14 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey from cancer.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Harvey with burial in Bowdon Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bowdon. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.
Don was born on November 6, 1945 in Harvey, ND. He was the son of Robert and Amalia (Hintz) Hirschkorn. Don grew up and attended school in Goodrich. As a young man he farmed with his father and worked road construction. Don entered the army and was honorably discharged. He returned home and worked on construction projects and cared for his mother and brother. He also worked as an iron worker in South Dakota where he met his wife Beverly Sorteberg and they were married on May 13, 1977 in Aberdeen, SD. They returned to the family farm southwest of Harvey where they farmed and raised cattle. Beverly died on July 25, 2005. Following Bev's death he quit grain farming. He continued to raise cattle until 2009 when he retired. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing and sitting around and telling stories. Don was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Harvey. Don is survived by three sisters, Janice DeKrey of Bismarck, MaryAnn Ripplinger of Highland Ranch, CO, Adeline Heutmaker of Edina, MN; two step sons, Eddy, Snowflake, AZ and Teddy Sather of Tucson, AZ; several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; sisters, Viola Martin, Lorraine Clouse, Verna Piatz, Agnes Theige, Doris Folsom; brothers, Norman, Alvin, Marvin and Dennis.
