Donald Dean Beck, 76, of Anamoose, ND, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be held at the United Community Baptist Church on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey on Friday, March 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m followed by a public prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Anamoose Baptist Cemetery.
Don was born on August 2, 1945, in Harvey, ND, to John and Ida (Buechle) Beck. Don was raised on the Beck Family farm south of Anamoose. He attended a one room school through the 6 th grade and then attended Anamoose Public School where he graduated from high school in 1963. Don attended Wahpeton State School of Science earning a two-year degree in diesel mechanics.
Don married Mary Bartz on June 26, 1966 Anamoose. Living on the family farm, they raised their three children-- Donna, David, and Daniel.
Don farmed for several years, worked for The Heringer Lumber Co., did construction work with Frank Ewert, and worked for the Anamoose Public School as custodian and a bus driver. His bus driving took him to many extracurricular activities. In his retirement he had a favorite job, driving truck for Becker Corn Chopping. Don enjoyed time with his grandchildren, attending their school functions, and deer hunting. He also took nine trips to Alaska and was able to catch a 158 lb halibut and bagged a black bear.
Donald was very thankful for the second chance of life which he received in 2014. The late Donnie Axt and his wife JoAnn gave Donald their daughter Deidre's kidney. Donald enjoyed 7 1/2 years of life after his kidney transplant.
Donald is survived by his wife, Mary, to whom he was married for 55 years; daughter, Donna Beck of Lovelock, Nevada; sons, David of Harvey, ND, and Daniel (Tracie) of Kenai, Alaska; grandchildren, Jason (Brittany), John, and Melissa all of Harvey, ND; Abigail, Hunter, Bridger, and Emma all of Kenai, Alaska; brother, Jerome Beck of Mandan, ND; sister, Arlene and (significant other) Marvin Wentz, Harvey, ND; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Cheryl Bartz, Harvey, ND; Clarence and Marion Bartz, Fessenden, ND; and Lawrence and Nancy Bartz, Anamoose, ND; sister-in-law, Laurie Bartz, Harvey, ND, special friends, Mike and Nelda Stephens, Lovelock, NV; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Robert and Frieda Bartz, his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dewayne Biesterfeld, sister, Irene, and brother-in-law, Ron Bartz, sister-in-law, June Beck. Share online at www.hertzfuneralhomes.com
