Obituary

Deloris Oswald, 87, of Bismarck, formerly of Goodrich, died Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at her daughter's home in Bismarck.  Funeral services will be held at the Goodrich Seventh-day Adventist Church on Monday, July 8, 2019, at 10:30 a.m.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.  Burial will be held in the Denhoff Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery.

Deloris was born on January 4, 1932, near Denhoff, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Adolph and Dina (Graff) Vietz.  She grew up and attended school near Denhoff.  Deloris attended college in Valley City to become a teacher.  She began teaching at a country school south of Denhoff.  Deloris married Eddie Oswald on December 10, 1952 in McClusky. They lived and farmed on a farm south of Denhoff until 1981 when they moved to Goodrich.

Deloris and Eddie were blessed with two children, Sheila and Bonnie.  Bonnie died before her first birthday.  After Eddie became disabled, Deloris cared of him for 19 years as well as caring for her mother for several years.  Eddie passed away on March 6, 2005. Following Eddie's death, Deloris and Sheila began taking annual vacations each summer, always looking for a new adventure and traveling together.  Deloris experienced her first airplane ride and a cruise to Alaska and Hawaii.  They also went on many bus and car trips together.  Sheila and her mom kept in constant contact speaking daily at least four times a day by phone.

Although Deloris was a very private and humble individual, never wanting to be in the limelight, she had a very active life.  Each day she awoke at 6:00am, walking at least two miles every day, and was never to bed before 11:00 p.m.   Community was very important to Deloris, and she was very much a part of everything happening in Goodrich.  She was the business manager at the Goodrich Public School where she worked for 45 years until December of 2015.  While working at the school, she was considered a second mom to many students.  At the same time, she was the Goodrich City Auditor and also served on the Goodrich Ambulance for many years.

Deloris loved her family, gardening, flowers, and decorating, especially at Christmas time.

Deloris was a member of the Goodrich Seventh-day Adventist church where she held many offices.

Deloris is survived by her daughter, Sheila Oswald of Bismarck; numerous nieces and nephews and very close friends.

Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eddie; daughter, Bonnie at the age of nine months; brother, Delmer Vietz.
