DeLayne Idella Krein, 86 of Goodrich, ND died Sunday September 4, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church in Goodrich. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral service. DeLayne Idella (Wahl) Krein, daughter of Christian Wahl, Jr. and Magdalena (Goll) was born July 8, 1936, on her parent's farm near Goodrich, the youngest of 9 children. She attended elementary school in Boone Township and was the only family member to receive a high school education, graduating from Goodrich Public School in 1955. She then worked parttime as a bookkeeper for Goodrich Machine Co. before being employed with Unruh's Red Owl until 1959. In July of that year, she married her high school sweetheart Merwyn Krein of Goodrich. They purchased the Jake Helmer farm three miles south of Goodrich, where they were blessed with five children. DeLayne lived a life of love and devotion to her family and farm life. Her German meals were a true labor of love and a dining experience to look forward to around the table or in the field. DeLayne loved being outside caring for her yard and took pride in her vegetable and flower gardens.
After retiring from farming in 1996, DeLayne worked at Doering's Super Valu for many years.
DeLayne was an active and a lifetime member of Peace Lutheran Church. She served selflessly in numerous capacities including the making of mission quilts.
The fall of 2017, Merwyn and DeLayne moved to Bismarck where they made their home at Hay Creek Lodge retirement community. DeLayne enjoyed outings with her family, trips to the farm, reading, painting, colored pencil art, and a good puzzle.
DeLayne is survived by daughters, Claudia Park of Carrington, Kari Krein of Bismarck and Celeste (Dave) Olson of Fargo; sons, Kim (Andrene) Krein of Bismarck and Christopher (Liz Hutslar) Krein of Mandan; five grandchildren, Holly (Nathan) Hammarsten, Abby (Blayke) Gasal, Mara Olson, Christian Hutslar, Crosby Krein; and two great-grandchild Axel and Deklan Hammarsten; & one brother, Donald Wahl. DeLayne was preceded in death by her husband, Merwyn; parents, five brothers and two sisters.
