David Johnson, 68, Minot formerly of Manfred, ND died Saturday, January 5, 2019 in Bismarck of natural causes.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the spring at the Vang Lutheran Cemetery, Manfred, ND.

David Allen Johnson was born on August 22, 1950 in Harvey, ND to Leslie  and Olga (Opsal) Johnson.  David attended Manfred Grade School; Special Education in Drake and in Harvey and graduated with a high school diploma from Minot High School, Minot.  David worked for the Minot Vocational Workshop and was trained as a custodian and in shoe care.  David was employed as a janitor for Main Medical in Minot and had a shoe shine stand at Arrowhead Mall also in Minot.  David married Peggy Brennan on August 22, 1991.  They were married ten years.  Peggy passed away in April 2001.  David married Frances Sillitti on September 24, 2004.  Frances passed away in February 2011.

Throughout the years, David was active in the rights and accessibility for people with mental and physical disabilities; legislation for smoke free environments; and volunteer work.  David was always ready with a hand for those in need.  He received numerous awards and recognition for his advocacy work and volunteerism.

Those who knew David will remember his bright smile, his firm convictions, his wisdom, his optimism, and his deep faith in God.  "Never give up, never give in and never quit!" "Take one day at a time, one hour at a time and one moment at a time.  Those who knew David well, used him as an example of how to live.  Many would try to teach him, only to realize they were the ones to learn from him.

David is survived by his five siblings, Larry Johnson (Rosa Jones) Modesto, CA; Laverne Johnson (Gwyn Herman) Bismarck, ND; James O. Johnson (Shirley Francis Johnson), Harvey, ND; his twin sister Dianne Aull (Mark Swartz), Bismarck, ND; and Marilyn Sjaastad, Bismarck; three nephews, five nieces, two great nephews, four great nieces and another great niece on the way.                   ;
