Obituary

Darrell "Cheta" Stafford, 83 of Lisbon, ND formerly of Harvey died Tuesday, May 02, 2017 at the Sanford on Broadway Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5 at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.

Darrell was born on November 2, 1933 in Harvey, ND. He was the son of James and Marion (Stendahl) Stafford. He graduated from the Harvey High School in 1952. He enlisted in the Navy and served in the naval air branch in Hawaii and Nevada. He re-enlisted in the Air Force and was a jet engine mechanic on the B-47, KC-135 and the B-52 airplanes. While in the Air Force he was stationed at March Air Force Base in California, RAF in Fairford, England, Glasgow Air Force Base in Montana, Castle Air Force Base in California and Blyvill Air Force Base in Arkansas. Darrell was honorably discharged in 1974. He then worked in a sawmill in Drasco, Arkansas. He retired and moved to Harvey in 1978. Darrell moved to Lisbon Soldiers Home in the fall of 2013. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Harvey in 1947. Darrell's hobbies included fishing, playing cards especially pinochle and poker; and going to the casino. He enjoyed family gatherings looked forward to having a good bowl of oyster stew at Christmas.

Darrell is survived by three sisters, Janice Neuenschwander of Bismarck, Mavis (Cam) Rusch of Mesa, AZ, Linda Stafford of Minneapolis, MN; brothers, Florian "Tom" (Sharon) Stafford of Carmel, Indiana, Ardell (Jean) Stafford of Bismarck, Randy (Val) Stafford of Ellendale, MN; numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Stafford, Fessenden and Cheryl Stafford of Harvey; special life-long friends, Agnes Goldade and Geraldine Hoffard both of Harvey

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne "Ves", Norman "Dutch", Lowell "Luke" and Nathan "Nip" and brother-in-law, Joe Neuenschwander.
