Darlene Appelt, 85, rural Martin, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Faith Lutheran Church, Harvey with burial following in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Visitation will be Friday, July 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Darlene was born on July 14, 1936, in Harvey, ND to Edward and Edna (Reiswig) Ziegler. She grew up in the Lincoln Valley area south of Anamoose. After her father's death in 1948, the family moved to McClusky and later to Harvey. Darlene attended the Harvey High School and also worked at the Bowl-A-Drome and the Harvey Bakery. Darlene married Robert Appelt on August 10, 1953, in Wolf Point, MT. They moved to the Appelt family farm north of Martin in 1955 and continued to reside there during their retirement.
Darlene's interests included square dancing, sewing, gardening, baking, playing games, and especially spending time with family. She touched many lives with her generosity and made sure family and friends would receive greeting cards.
Darlene was a current member of Faith Lutheran Church and a former member of the United Methodist Church in Harvey. She enjoyed attending Christian Women's activities in Harvey. Darlene loved serving God and her faith was very important to her. She showed many characteristics of a Godly woman described in Proverbs 31.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert; children, Roberta (Frank) Ewert of Anamoose, Rodney (Deb) Appelt of Granville, Randy (Dawn) Appelt of Martin, Roxie (Mark) Rieger of Bismarck, Rhonda (Dwight) Schneibel of Shorewood, MN, Reed (Lisa) Appelt of Bismarck; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grand-children; brother, Gerald (Evie) Ziegler of Spokane Valley, WA; brother-in-law, Richard Appelt of Lake Villa, IL; sister-in-law, Julia Appelt of Tuscon, AZ.
Darlene was preceded in death by her father in 1948 and mother in 1983; infant sister, Elsie; sister Dorothy Wahl; brothers, Myril Ziegler; infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Schneibel; sisters-in-law, Virginia Ziegler, Elaine Appelt, Janet Ziegler; brother-in-law, Ralph Appelt; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Geraldine and John Dethloff. Darlene passed away at home on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Blessed be the memory of Darlene Appelt.
Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
