Daniel Letvin, 82, of Kief, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at his son's home in Minot. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte, ND. Burial will be in the Kief City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Daniel Letvin was born on August 11, 1928, at Minot, ND. He was the son of Dan and Anne (Moseanko) Letvin. He grew up and attended rural school in Highland Township in Sheridan County near Kief. As a young man he began farming and ranching with his father. He married Marian Gehring on October 27, 1950, in Drake. They lived and farmed on the Letvin family farm where he raised cattle and small grains. Daniel was a member of the Wells Eagles Aerie 3080 of Harvey and the Ukrainian Cultural Institute in Dickinson. He attended the Mennonite Brethren Church in Kief when he was a young man. Daniel enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, studying North Dakota history, and traveling the United States and foreign countries. Daniel also enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family and friends. His pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daniel is survived by his wife, Marian of Kief; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Darlene Letvin of Minot, and Craig and Chris Letvin of Grand Forks, ND; one daughter, Brenda Halvorson of Staples, MN; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Alvina Hystad of Milbank, South Dakota. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Danny Letvin, George Letvin, Alfred Letvin, and Andrew Letvin; and one grandson, Patrick Letvin.
