He entered the Army in October 1952 and served in Korea before being honorably discharged in September 1954. He moved to Drake, ND where he began working with his cousin Johnny and later purchased the Westlie Service Station in Drake. Conrad married Cecilia Fettig on October 15, 1956 in Orrin. They lived in Drake before moving to Harvey in 1967. Franchises Con owned and operated were Con's Enco, Exxon, Mobil and Conoco branded stations. He retired at age 76 after logging more than one million miles.
Con was in the gas and oil business for over 28 years. He received numerous awards from the industry and was recognized for his service and commitment to the community. He was dedicated to his loyal customers. He was kind and considerate and always willing to share with others. Many friends would visit his station in the evenings and talk about the day's events, share stories, tell jokes or reminisce about the old times.
Con's Polka band was well known for playing at weddings and anniversaries throughout the area for over thirty years and if one were to put together all the names of those he played for, would fill a book. People loved to listen and dance to his music.

He also was a member of the Harvey City Fire Department and lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion Posts in Harvey.
