Clem Schnase, 61, of Anamoose died Friday, September 18, 2026 at his home in Anamoose. Funeral services will be held at the St. Martin Lutheran Church of Anamoose on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey.
Clem Jerry Schnase was born November 3, 1964 in Harvey, ND to Jerry and Gladys Schnase. He was baptized at St Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose, ND. He was the second of three sons, John, Clem, and Gil. The boys grew up working on the farm raising and milking cattle, as well as farming various crops. He graduated from Anamoose High School in 1983 and from Lake Region College in 1985 with a degree in Auto Mechanics. It was here where he met his wife, Laurel.
He married the love of his life, Laurel, on July 5, 1986 at St Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose. They owned and operated Schnase Garage in Martin, ND. While living there, they welcomed their first son, Cassidy (CJ) on November 13, 1988.
In 1989, they moved to Fargo, where he worked for Champion Auto. Their second son William (Billy) was born November 20, 1990, and their daughter Amanda completed the family October 3, 1992.
Clem always loved cars. His hobbies included restoring cars as well as participating in both demolition derby and drag racing. If it had an engine, he was into it.
For 23 years, he owned and operated Border Cities Service in Fargo-Moorhead. His work ethic and self-sacrifice helped him grow a successful and respected business, maintaining a strong relationship with the city of Fargo police and government departments. He built lasting connections with his crew of employees, many of whom became like family.
In addition to the business, in those years, Clem also remodeled and expanded their house as well as farmed and ranched with his father and brother back in Anamoose. His evenings and weekends were always full of projects and jobs, but he loved making time to attend the games and performances of his children.
One of the family highlights was a vacation to Hawaii in 2006, which made such an impact that for many years Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were not complete without crab legs for dinner, even in ND winters.
After closing the business in 2017, Clem returned to his love of farming and ranching full time back in Anamoose, ND. He continued working the land and the cattle until retiring in 2025 due to health reasons and was able to spend more time with his family, especially his three grandsons.
This summer, on July 5, 2026, Clem and Laurel celebrated their 40th anniversary with a special trip to Medora, ND.
He is survived by his parents: Jerry and Gladys Schnase of Anamoose, wife: Laurel Schnase of Anamoose, brothers: John (Melinda) Schnase of Milwaukee, WI and Gil Schnase of Tower City, ND, children: Cassidy (Patricia) Schnase of Fargo, ND, William (Denise) Schnase of Fort Worth, TX, and Amanda (Branden) Bott of McClusky, ND, and grandchildren: Connor Schnase, Gus Bott, and Arlo Bott; mother-in-law, Joyce Whitehead, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and his special dog, Buddy. Clem was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Frank Whitehead; sister-in-law, Dawn Schnase.
