Clara Knodel 86 of Harvey formerly of Hurdsfield died Saturday April 8, 2017 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey. Funeral services will be held at Bowdon Lutheran Church of Bowdon on Tuesday April 11, 2017 at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Monday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Burial will be held at the Chaseley City Cemetery.

Clara was born on September 21, 1930 in Rugby, ND. Clara was the daughter of Charles and Susie (Kleinsasser) Best. She grew up and attended school in Hurdsfield. As a young woman she began working at the Hurdsfield Post Office. Clara married Richard Knodel on September 1, 1947 in Jamestown. They lived in Hurdsfield where she worked for the post office and became postmaster in the late 1970's. Clara retired in 2012. She entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in 2013. Clara enjoyed baking and taking care of her flowers. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Hurdsfield and the Royal Neighbors of America. Richard died on November 5, 2001.

Clara is survived by her daughters, Donna (Tom) Sauter of Goodrich, Doreen (Terry) Rexine of Bowdon, Deloris (Don) Wikenheiser of Strasburg, ND; six grandchildren, Steve Sauter, Matthew, Paul, Jennifer, Michelle, and Becky Wikenheiser; sisters, Geraldine Hoffard and Mary Lou (Gilbert) Schmidt both of Harvey, Grace Frueh of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Dorothy Best of Harvey. Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; brother, Charles Best.
