Charles Johnson, Jr., 76, of Heimdal, ND passed away on Monday, February 01, 2016 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 15 at Dare Funeral Home, Elk River, MN. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Local arrangements were with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Charles Bert Johnson, Jr. was born on December 25, 1939 in Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada to Charles Bert and Lena (Uhryn) Johnson. He grew up in International Falls, MN and graduated from high school in 1958. He received a Bachelor Degree from Bemidji State University and a few years later a Masters Degree in Psychology at St. Cloud State University.
Charles married Anna Mae Frank in 1964 and they had two children, Timothy and Kimberly. They divorced and he married Deanne Rolpf.
Charles lived in International Falls; Bemidji; the Grand Rapids area where he served as a Rehabilitation Councilor for the Minnesota Workers Compensation Bureau; in Elk River where he taught elementary school from 1971 to 1980; Alaska for two years; and several other Minnesota communities. He moved to Heimdal, ND in 2000 and worked at the pasta plant in Carrington for three years retiring in 2005. He recently entered the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.
He served as president of the Minnesota Teachers Union.
Charles is survived by his son, Timothy and fiancé (Justine Berthiaume) Johnson of Heimdal; daughter, Kimberly Johnson of Elk River, MN; two grandchildren; Kyanna and Kaden Johnson; sister, Donna Stadt of Elk River, MN.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lanny M. Johnson.
