Carroll Leroy Bjorke, 86, Harvey, ND died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27 at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Carroll was born on March 14, 1925 near Harvey, ND. He was the son of Newell and Alice (Lindelien) Bjorke. He grew up on a farm north of Harvey and attended a rural school near his home. He was baptized and confirmed in the Eden Valley Lutheran Church. He graduated from Harvey High School in 1942. Carroll attended Minot State University and taught in both the rural school and the Selz Public School. Carroll was united in marriage to Harriet Johnson on June 2, 1957 at a country church near Lake Metigoshe. He continued to teach and farm until 1965. He then went into farming full time. In 1993 he was chosen as an outstanding farmer for Pierce County. When the country church closed he became an active member of First Lutheran Church in Harvey. He served several terms on the church council. As a young man he was a member of Selz Mustang soft-ball team. He also served as president of the North Dakota Amateur Softball Association of North Dakota. He served on the Harvey Public Library Board and made several plaques for them. He was an avid reader on books about North Dakota and wrote up reports on these books.
Carroll is survived by his wife, Harriet of Harvey; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Patrick Pithey of Wahpeton; three grandchildren, Daniel, Samantha, and Caitlyn all of Wahpeton; sister, Doris Adam of Brookville, Indiana; brother and sister-in-law, Merlin and Kay Bjorke of Minneapolis; numerous nieces and nephews. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Norton Bjorke.
