Betty was born on May 14,1946, in Bismarck. She was the daughter of Joeseph and Kathryn (Manolovitz) Mathern. Betty came from a large close-nit family with two brothers, Mike and Daryl Mathern and five sisters, Holly Comeau, Donna Mathern, Janell Mathern, Loree Brewster, and Jill Vollmer. Family was the foundation of her life from the very beginning.
On September 2, 1964, she married Jerry Erickson in Fessenden. They had four children Lada Burgard, Jerry Erickson Jr., Kenny Erickson, and Jayme Erickson. Family was everything to Betty. Whether it was tending to her garden, crocheting a blanket, preparing canned goods, playing cards and games, she did it all with love and the purpose of bringing people together. Her home was always open, her hands always busy with something thoughtful, and her heart forever focused on caring for those she loved.
She worked for many years as a cashier at Little Mart and One Stop, in Harvey where her warm presence and dependable spirit left lasting impressions on co-workers and customers alike. But it was within her family where the greatest legacy lives on in traditions she passed down such as the annual tubing trip, the love she gave unconditionally, and the memories she helped create.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but the strength of her love, the joy she brought, and dedication to family will live on in every heart she touched.
Betty is survived by her four children, Lada Burgard (Tom), Jerry Erickson Jr. (Nancy), Kenny and Tonia Erickson, and Jayme Erickson. Six grandchildren, Brittney Erickson, Samantha (Brady) Schmaltz, Nicole (Jacob) Brynjulson, McKenzie Erickson (Brandon) and Alex Erickson, and Hannah Ziegler. Five great grandchildren; brother, Daryl, sisters, Donna, Loree, and Jill; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; brother, Mike, sisters, Holly and Janell.
