Bertha Sophie Link, 86, Goodrich, ND died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, McClusky. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Burial will be later in the spring in McClusky City Cemetery.
Bertha was born on August 16, 1926 on the family farm near Skogmo, ND which was located north of McClusky. She was the daughter of Carl B. and Sophie (Stromme) Knutson. She was baptized on September 12, 1926 and confirmed on June 2, 1940. When she was a child the family moved to a farm in Lamont Township southeast of McClusky. She graduated from McClusky High School in 1944. She then began teaching in country schools. She attended summer school at Minot State University on several occasions completing two years of post secondary education. She also taught school in the Denhoff Public School. She was united in marriage to Christian G. H. Link on December 21, 1958 at McClusky. To this union were born six children. They lived and farmed southeast of Goodrich in Mauch Township and she continued teaching in Denhoff for 1½ years. Bertha and Christ raised their family there and moved into Goodrich in 1968. Christ passed away on August 14, 1994. Bertha lived with several daughters before she moved to the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey in April 2012.
Bertha was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and LWML. She also taught Sunday school and was Sunday School Superintendant for many years. She was a member of the North Dakota Education Association. Her hobbies included softball in her youth, cooking and reading. She listened to "Talking Books" in her later years when reading became difficult.
Bertha is survived by her son Bruce Link, Bismarck; five daughters, Shelly (Darol) Tengesdal, Esko, MN, Cheri (Warren) VanBruggen, Marion, ND, Karen (Robert) Anderson, Goodrich, ND, Heidi (Brent) Sabot, Harvey, Rachel Link, Jamestown; 12 grandchildren, Khrista, Kimberly, Micah, Matthew, Isaac, Luke, Philip, Kyrie, Pamela, Andrew, Amber and Mary; 2 great-granddaughters, Sophie and Bella.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Anna as infant, Marian as an infant, and Mildred Meckle; great grandson, Josiah; nephew, Paul Meckle; daughter-in-law, Michelle Link; Bertha's nursing home roommate and special friend Emily Sommer.
