Bergitta Axtman, 93, Selz died Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, ND.

Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Selz, ND on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Hertz Funeral Home in Harvey with a rosary prayer service held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

Bergitta was born on December 9, 1921 at Salvador, Saskatchewan, Canada to Henry and Martina (Neiss) Bichler. She moved with her family to the Balta area when she was a child. Bergitta grew up in the Balta area and attended school there.

Bergitta married Nick Axtman on October 28, 1940 in Selz. They lived and farmed northeast of Selz. In 1981 they moved into Selz. Nick died on June 24, 1995. She moved to Harvey in 1997 and to an apartment in Velva in 2005. She entered the Souris Valley Care Center in 2010.

Bergitta's hobbies included gardening, playing cards, singing and telling stories mostly from long ago. She enjoyed playing Bingo and an occasional trip to the casino. Her grandkids loved her pickles and fried chicken.

Bergitta was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church and Christian Mothers in Selz and attended the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva while living there.

Bergitta is survived by her two daughters, Irene Kramer of Velva; Diane (Larry) Muffenbier of Balta; son, Kenneth (Kathy) Axtman of Grand Prairie, TX; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; brother, Paul (Emerine) Bichler of Reno, Nevada; two sisters, Victoria Dudschus of Tacoma, WA, Armelia Snyder of Reno, Nevada.

Bergitta was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Martina; husband, Nick; daughter, Marlene Lamphear; granddaughter, Tammy Wasmer; sons-in-law, Patrick Kramer and Ron Lamphear; brother, Lawrence Bichler; three sisters, Eva Dahl and Amelia Fox and Sister Mary Maureena (Carolina Bichler).
