Obituary

Beatrice Schmaltz, 96, Harvey, ND died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND.

Committal services and entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Garden, Bismarck, ND at 3 p.m. Monday.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with prayer services at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Beatrice was born on April 30, 1916 at Balta, ND to Rochus and Rosella (Miegler) Schneider. She grew up on the family farm near Balta and attended rural school. Beatrice married Joseph Schmaltz, Jr. on June 19, 1939 at Balta. They farmed for two years near Harvey before moving to Chicago in 1941. They returned in 1945 to their farm near Harvey and again farmed for two years before moving into Harvey. In 1961 they moved to a farm northwest of Harvey. She was a cook at the White School for three years. They retired and moved to Bismarck in 1982. Joe passed away on January 19, 1993. She later moved to Harvey.

Beatrice was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening; cooking; dancing; playing cards; visiting friends and family. Beatrice was always available to lend a helping hand to family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved animals. She will also be remembered for her wonderful German dishes and other foods she enjoyed preparing for family and friends.

Beatrice is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Reynold and Doris of Bismarck, Steven and Paulette of Mission Viejo, CA, Daniel and Garlet of Minot, David and Deb of Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosie and William Bowers of Houston, TX, Bonnie and Mike Faul of McClusky; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Peter Schneider and a sister, Lydia Eldridge.
