Barbara was born June 22, 1923 in Pierce County near Harvey, ND. She was the only daughter of Joseph and Rosella (Eisenzimmer) Schmaltz. She attended rural school. Barbara was raised on the family farm and often spoke of the long hours and hard work during those difficult years before mechanized farming.
On October 23, 1940, on a warm sunny fall day, Barbara and Jacob Gisi were united in marriage at Orrin, ND. Barbara and Jacob's union continued for 66 years until Jacob's passing on February 21, 2007. They jointly farmed in Pierce and Wells Counties with the homestead located south of the Gisi family farm. There were many happy gatherings of family and friends at the farm. One of Barbara's greatest talents was her "Green Thumb". She took great pride in her wonderful gardens and beautiful flowers. Barbara was always happy to share both with friends and family. All enjoyed her great meals and special apple pies.
Barbara and Jacob retired at Harvey where she was able to continue her love of gardening and her favorite hobbies such as crocheting and crafts. She also enjoyed displaying her collection of bells.
Barbara was passionate about her faith and the holy rosary. This was a daily part of her life. She belonged to the St. Cecilia Church, church circle, homemakers, and the Wells Eagles Aerie Auxiliary. She greatly enjoyed and loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her special nieces and nephews.
