Arnold was born on October 17, 1922 northwest of the Lincoln Valley area north of Denhoff, ND. He was the son of Heinrich and Albertina (Schielke) Sprenger. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. As a young man he began farming. Arnold was inducted into the army on April 5, 1946. He served for eight months overseas in the Seoul, Korea area. He was honorably discharged on May 7, 1947 and returned to Lincoln Valley. Arnold and Hedwig Guthmiller were united in marriage on June 28, 1950 at the home of her parents, Frederich and Katherina (Dockter) Guthmiller near Medina. They lived and farmed south of Anamoose. His farming operation included growing small grain crops and raising livestock. Arnold was an avid outdoorsman. He was close to nature, being very observant and knowledgable on plant and animal characteristics and patterns. Arnold's own views on conservation were more in line with today's environmental and conservation movements than those of his generation. He was also a hunter and fisherman. He was very well known for his responsible trapping activities and his careful preparation of the pelts for sale to distant premium fur markets. He never tired of his love for reading. Hedwig passed away on July 22, 2005. He moved to Harvey in November 2008 and in January 2010 he entered St. Aloisius Long Term Care Unit in Harvey. Arnold was a lifetime member of the Kassel Reformed Church in Lincoln Valley. He served as a Deacon and Elder for a combined 40 years as well as Sunday School Superintendant and teacher at the Kassel Reformed Church. Arnold is survived by his children, Marcella and her husband Mark Sommer of Harvey, Inez and her husband Willard Rose of Minot, Morris and his wife Shar Sprenger of Bismarck, Richard Sprenger of Anamoose; eight grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Kayla, Sarah, Rebecca, Matthew, Marissa and Dustin; four great-grandchildren; Tessa, Colton, Aidin and JoyDell; three sisters, Hilda Stuber and her companion, Eddie Wentz of Minot, Esther and her husband Marvin Seibel of Bellville, Illinois, Alvina and her husband Elmer Kummer of Anamoose; sister-in-law, Leela Sprenger of Anamoose.
