Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 16, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in McClusky. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Denhoff Cemetery.

Armin was born April 15, 1925 to Reinhold and Mary Erdmann, Armin was the baby of the family, with one sister, Verna, and two brothers, Archie and Cecil.  He was the only child in his family that was delivered by a doctor.  As a young boy he herded cattle either on foot or horseback.  To be able to attend grade school in Denhoff, Dad and Verna lived in a converted box car. He later worked in his parent's tavern/café in Denhoff on Saturday nights selling ice cream.  His parents had a house attached to the tavern, but there was not a bed for Dad, so he slept on the pool table.  At about age 16 he and a local friend decided to run away from home.  With Minneapolis as their destination, they jumped on a freight train but got only as far as Jamestown. After they were kicked off the train by some bums, it was then they realized this life wasn't for them and hitchhiked back to Denhoff.  In high school he played basketball and was the point guard.  Most of the games were played in Denhoff as they had the nicest gym.  He graduated in 1944.

Armin married Lorene Jesser, who was a new schoolteacher in Denhoff, on September 18,1948 in McClusky.  They lived near Denhoff, where they farmed and ranched and raised their six children.  In 1988 they moved to McClusky where they retired.  Armin served his community in so many ways.  He served as Sheridan County Commissioner for 22 years, on the school board 13 years, helped organize and was a director of the Goodrich Rural Fire Protection Dist., was a member of both the Goodrich and McClusky Lions Clubs, and a member of the Eagles Club in Harvey.  They enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing trips with friends, and trail riding in the Badlands. They enjoyed many bus tours and went on an Alaska cruise.   Their social life included bowling, attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, playing cards with friends, and being the last ones to leave after a dance.  Armin liked fishing and hunting with his family, but deer season was his favorite.  His last deer hunt was at the age of 94.

Armin is survived by his wife, Lorene, of 73 years; three sons, Tim (Janice), Tom (Julee), Doug (Vickie); three daughters, Brenda (Doug) Hertz, Barb (Dean) Gesellchen, Mary (Kelly) Mauch; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather Matt Leitheiser; brothers, Archie, Cecil and an infant brother; sister Verna and great-grandson, Gaige Fiebelkorn.
