Arlington Helm, 93, of McClusky died Monday, April 20, 2026 at the Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at the St. John's Lutheran Church of McClusky on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
Visitation will be held at the St. John's Lutheran Church of McClusky on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Prayer service, will be at 6:00 pm on Monday at the Church.
Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery of Mandan on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
Arlington was born on November 20, 1932 in McClusky. He was the son of Edwin and Emma (Bonnet) Helm. Arlie was raised and educated in McClusky, North Dakota. Arlington served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and was a veteran of the Korean War. On September 18, 1955, he married Phyllis Schell. Together they raised three children, Kathleen, Keith, and Kerry.
Arlington was a hard working and versatile man who held a variety of jobs throughout his life. He worked as a truck driver, farmer, and mechanic. After returning to McClusky, he and his wife purchased and operated Helm's Tavern for 24 years. He took great pride in his family and serving his community. He contributed to the development of the park at Hoffer Lake and worked for over 30 years as a school bus driver for the McClusky School District.
Arlington was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and American Legion both of McClusky. Arlington enjoyed camping and fishing and valued the time he spent with his close friends and family.
He is survived by his Wife, Phyllis, daughter, Kathleen Skaley and her sons, Curtis (Mary), with daughter, Gracie, and Jeremy (Kayla), with daughters Hayden and McKenli; son, Keith (Jodi) and their daughters, Trisha (Jeremiah) Troutman, with sons, Dominic, Terik, and Emrick, and Kayla (Kyle) Welscher, with children, Ruby, August, and Josie, daughter-in-law, Cheryl Helm, sisters, Donna (Welford) Jesz and Joyce Hoffer. Arlington was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kerry; son-in-law, Merlyn Skaley, sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and Andrew Delzer, and sister, Elaine Schatz.
