Arlene (Friestad) Cable, 83, of Harvey died Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Sanford Hospice House on Broadway in Fargo, ND.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.  Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.  Burial will be in the spring in Bethania Lutheran Cemetery, Wellsburg.

Arlene Avis Friestad was born at the family farm near Harlow, ND on January 16, 1940 to Harold and Guri (Groff) Friestad.  She attended elementary school at Gallinger #1 and graduated from Leeds High School in 1958.  Arlene married Roar Anderson on July 1, 1960, in Fargo, ND.  Together they had 4 children: Tammy, Traci, Troy and Trent.  Arlene and Roar were later divorced.  On July 24, 1970, Arlene married Robert (Bob) Cable of rural Esmond.  Bob adopted Arlene's four children and a daughter, Caroline, was born to them.  They lived and farmed south of Esmond until their retirement.  Arlene moved to Harvey shortly before Bob passed away on April 24, 2020.

Arlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Esmond and First Lutheran Church, Harvey.  At Trinity, she held several different offices.  Arlene was a gifted seamstress, making everything from draperies to prom dresses to quilts.  She also enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, golf, bowling, jigsaw puzzles, playing whist with her siblings, bus tours, and travels with friends.

Arlene is survived by daughters Tammy Pierce of Fargo, Traci Deck of Bismarck, Caroline (Quinn) Stein of Sioux Falls; son, Troy Cable, Olympia, WA; grandchildren Jade (Pierce) Keller, Rachel Deck, Brandon Deck, Alexandra Hanna, Laila Cable, Taylor Cable, Brooks Stein and Shea Stein;  great-grandchildren Lilli Bienek, Adelyne Bienek, Elija Deck, Ryan Deck, Alayna Deck and Kassidy Cable and many nieces and nephews;  sisters Lois (Marvin) Jemtrud, Clarice Matthews, and Ellen (Clinton) Huffman;  brothers Harlan (Sri) Friestad and David Friestad;

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Guri Friestad; husband Bob Cable; son Trent Cable; brother Mark Friestad; brother-in-law Roland Matthews; nephews, Ronald Matthews and Daniel Straabe; and niece Lisa (Straabe) Lauckner.

Special thanks to Phillip Arnold and Nathan Arnold for always being there to help Mom with snow removal, etc. and the doctors, nurses and aides at Sanford Hospital and Sanford Hospice House in Fargo.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Bethania Cemetery or Harvey Senior Center
