Anton "Tony" Grad, 90, Harvey died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 19 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Burial will be at 3 P.M. Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with prayer services at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Tony was born on February 13, 1920 on the family farm northwest of Selz, ND. He was the son of George and Kathrin (Hoffart) Grad. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school near Selz. He entered the Army Air Corps on April 10, 1942 in Bismarck. Tony was injured while training and received an honorable discharge on July 28, 1942. Tony married Frances Van Eeckhout on July 15, 1947 in Drake. He returned to Harvey and farmed for a short while before being employed by the Gambles Store in Harvey. He was a salesman and repairman there for many years. He continued working for Tom's Home Furnishings for a number of years and was still called upon for appliance repairs.
He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and a past president and member of the Wells Eagles Aerie # 3080 in Harvey. His hobbies included playing cards with poker, Texas Hold Em, and Pinochle being favorites. He was well known for his gardening skills which provided a bountiful harvest for his family and friends to enjoy.
Tony is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances of Harvey; daughter and son-in-law, Barb and
Rick Rittenbach of Harvey; two granddaughters, Becky (Galen) Wolf, Hernando, Mississippi, Kristi (Tim) Beninga, West Fargo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Peter; sisters, Barbara Wocher and Martha Frost.
