Obituary

Ann Margaret Streifel, 84, Harvey, ND, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 2 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND.

Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Esmond.

Visitation will be Thursday (Dec. 1) from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Prayer services will be at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church Thursday at 7 p.m.

Ann was born on May 17, 1927 near Esmond, ND. She was the daughter of Bernard and Margaret (Leibhan) Lauinger. Ann grew up on the family farm near Esmond. She attended school rural school and the Esmond High School. She later received her GED from Lake Region State College in Devils Lake. Ann married Walter Streifel on May 29, 1944 at Esmond. They lived and farmed near Esmond. They moved to Harvey in 2004. Ann was newspaper correspondent for the Benson County Farmer Press for over 43 years and for the Herald Press in Harvey.

Ann loved gardening and she especially felt God's presence while gardening. Ann made over 60 quilts and every grandchild received a hand stitched quilt as awedding gift. Ann sewed many garments for family and herself. She loved to entertain and cook. She would make kuchen for special occasions and holidays. Ann and Walter enjoyed dancing and folks were not strangers to them for very long. Ann served as mistress of ceremonies for many activities. She gave many humorous talks at crop insurance banquets both in and out of state. Ann served several terms as president for the VFW Post 4251 Auxiliary in Esmond and served as chairperson for many Auxiliary projects. She was a member of and past president of the Esmond Golden Age Club. She was a former member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers Society and was very active in the ladies aid. Ann was also a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and Wells Eagles Auxiliary No. 3080 all of Harvey.

Ann is survived by her husband, Walter of Harvey; children, Donald (Loretta) Streifel of Washburn, Diane (John) Peyerl of Penn, ND, Randall E. (Jane) Streifel of Powers Lake, ND, Ernest (Lonna) Streifel of Harvey, Thomas Streifel and fiancé, Vicki of Tracy, MN, Rosalie (Randy) Axtman of Harvey; (21) grandchildren; (33) great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo (Florence) Lauinger, Hancock, MN, Edward (Mary) Lauinger, Devils Lake, ND; sister, Lorraine (Robert) Brewer, White Lake, Michigan; sister-in-law, Teresa Lauinger of Esmond; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Agnes Streifel of Esmond.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Benno; sisters, Catherine Streifel and Marion Axtman; sister-in law, Genevieve Olson.

Ann passed away on Sunday November 27 surrounded by her family after a courageous three year battle with cancer at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey. May Ann's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
