Alvina was born on January 21, 1922 at Napoleon, ND. She was the daughter of Fred and Eva (Stotz) Flemmer. Alvina was one of six children growing up on the farm and helping wherever needed, even painting the tall barn. She grew up and attended school at the Streeter Country School and Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey.

Alvina and Clarence Heitzmann were united in marriage on January 6, 1949. Due to a snow blizzard they were married at her family home in Streeter. They lived and farmed southeast of McClusky. Alvina helped with seeding, harvesting, stacking hay bales and loose hay, milking cows twice a day, raising chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys, birthing calves and at times bringing newborn calves into the basement to warm them during frigid temperatures. After a days work outside on the farm, she continued with the house work. She was a hard worker and a wonderful lady who always had a song on her lips and a smile on her face.

Alvina's hobbies were quilting, cooking and canning, bread making, crocheting, crafting, vegetable and flower gardening, singing, and sewing clothes for her children. She enjoyed bonfires with hot dogs and marshmallow roasts. She also enjoyed table games. Visitors to her home were always welcomed and well fed.

Alvina was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in McClusky. Church activities included Pathfinders, Dorcas Society, Children's Sabbath School Teacher, deaconess, and Vacation Bible School Teacher.

Alvina is survived by her husband Clarence of McClusky; son Neal of McClusky; two daughters, Ivana (Scott) Meacham of Everson, Washington, Lila (Robert) Anderson of Spokane, Washington; four grandchildren, Karrina Meacham, Brent Meacham, Shawn Anderson, Nick Anderson; three sisters, Edna Hollenbeck of Bessemer, MI, Eldina Heinrich of Mount Dora, Florida and Olga Rodin of Jamestown, ND.
