Obituary

Albert J. Schell, 89, McClusky, ND went home to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake, ND.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McClusky Baptist Church with the Rev. James Grupp officiating.

Burial will be in the McClusky City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky and one hour to the service at the church.

Albert John Schell was born June 20, 1922 to John and Mathilda (Helm) Schell on the family farm south of McClusky. He attended country school in Whittaker Township and worked on his father's farm. On July 26, 1943, Albert was called to serve in the United States Army. He was proud to wear his country's uniform and dearly loved his country. Albert served in the Solomon Islands, Philippine Islands and during the occupation of Japan after the war. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Bronze Service Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was discharged on February 1, 1946.

Albert married Bertha Krein on June 17, 1948 in McClusky. They began their married life on a farm north of Denhoff. Together, they had four children. In 1958 they moved to their current home on a farm south of McClusky.

Albert was baptized at New John's Lake in September 1979 and was a member of John's Lake Mennonite Church until its closure.

Albert dearly loved his farm and cherished his independent lifestyle. His later years were spent gardening, woodworking and enjoying his family.

Albert is survived by his wife, Bertha, McClusky; two daughters, Violetta (Ron) Helm, Bismarck, Donna Elkins, Bismarck; two sons, Larry (Sylvia) Schell of McClusky, Terry Schell of Berthold; eight grandchildren, Lynn Kohlasch, Tami Schell, Leslie Rhoads, Justin
Schell, Travis Schell, Jerime Schell, Jeanna Elkins, Kenneth Schell; 11 great-grandchildren, Maxx, Cole, Cayden, Korbin, Camdyn, McKenzie, Lane, Savannah, Kane, Caitlin and Josh; one sister, Leonora Crider, Denver, CO.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary; three brothers, Eddie, Louie and Bennie.
