Obituary

Albert Helm, 83, McClusky, ND died Sunday March 7 at the Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake. Visitation Wednesday 3 p.m to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Funeral services 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 11 at St. John's Lutheran Church, McClusky with burial in McClusky City Cemetery.

Albert was born November 25, 1926 on the family farm south of McClusky, ND to Fred, Sr. and Margaret (Pleinis) Helm. He grew up on the family farm south of McClusky. He entered the army on January 13, 1951 and served in Greenland and Panama until being honorably discharged on November 30, 1952. He returned to McClusky and started farming. He married Marilyn Shirley Werner on October 15, 1954 in McClusky. They lived and farmed south of McClusky. Marilyn died on August 19, 1999. Albert moved into the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky on Nov. 16, 2005 and to the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake on June 28, 2009. Albert was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was baptized and confirmed there. His hobbies included fishing, collecting toy Case Tractors and collecting quarters as gifts for his children and grandchildren. Albert also enjoyed listening to the KBMR "Happy Hour" radio program which played old time music. Albert is survived by his four daughters and four sons-in-law, LaDonna and Harold Plienis, Bismarck, Bonnie and Wayne Kabanuck of Max, Cheryl and Richard Bentz of McClusky, Tracy and John Sjoquist of Cathay; one son, Dwight of McClusky; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Grant) Kitzmann, Mandan, Lynn (Frank) Jorda of Dickinson, Amanda Heth, Bismarck, Kayla (Dusty) Kunkel of New Salem, Nicole Helm, McClusky, Erienne Sjoquist, Gordon Sjoquist and Mathew Sjoquist all of Cathay; three great-grandchildren, David Jorda and Elizabeth Jorda both of Dickinson and Katelynn Kitzmann of Mandan; sister, Edna Brackett of McClusky; two sisters-in-law, Mary Helm of McClusky, Ella Marie Helm of Bismarck; brother-in-law, Harry Murray of Garrison. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son David (March 7, 1957 – December 16, 2001); grandson, Garion Sjoquist (2005); sisters, baby girl Margaret (1934), Lydia Schaeffer, Martha Roth, Emma Lauer, Pauline Broeckel and Annetta Murray; brothers, Edwin, Adolph, Fred Jr., Christ, Julius, Walter and Arnold. Albert passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake, ND. Blessed be the memory of Albert Helm.
