Obituary

Adam Kline, 87 of Harvey died Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Anthony Catholic Church, Selz. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home. Prayer services will be Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Adam was born on June 21, 1924 in Chaseley, ND to Andrew and Magdalena (Paul) Kline. The Kline family lived near Chaseley where Adam attended grade school. The family later moved to the Hurdsfield area where he attended country school. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940 and was stationed near Kenmare for six months before returning to Hurdsfield. He entered the Navy in December 1943. During World War II, Adam served on a sub tender and the USS Oak Hill # 7 where he was a fireman in the engine room. His ship was stationed in the Pacific and was involved with many naval engagements. He was honorably discharged in April 1946 and returned to Hurdsfield and then worked for a farmer in the Selz area. Adam married Katherine Goldade on October 6, 1947 in Selz. He started working as a laborer on the Great Northern Railroad at Aylmer and then moved to Selz in 1949. Adam was promoted to foreman in 1966, had his own gang and in 1979 he started track inspecting. He retired from the railroad in 1985. Adam also worked for the Wells Eagles Aerie in Harvey for many years. Adam and Katherine moved to Harvey in 1999. Katherine died on February 27, 2010.

Adam was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church of Selz. He was also a member of the Wells Eagles Aerie # 3080 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post both of Harvey.

Adam enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle and other card games, watching the Minnesota Twins and his children and grandchildren they competed in many sporting events. Adam also played for the Selz Mustang soft-ball team for many years.

Adam is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Kenneth Frey of Harvey, Sandra and Barry Lucas of Harvey; two sons, Barry Kline of Harvey, Brad Kline and fiancé Denise Feist of Harvey; grandchildren, Shannon (Jeremy) Harms, Brent and (Angela) Lucas, Karissa and (Chad) Krueger, Matthew Kline, Ethan Kline, Jenae Kline, Kaitlyn Kline; great-grandchildren, Addison and Avery Harms, Kalen and Ava Lucas, Evan Krueger; brother, Anthony (Joyce) Kline, Jamestown; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Kline of Oregon, Erna Kline of Hurdsfield, Elaine Kline of Harvey and Leota Akers of Iowa; brother-in-law, Rubin Winter of Goodrich. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katherine; grandson, Rodney Lucas; brothers, Joe, Pete, Nick, John, George, Emanuel and Edward; four sisters, Adeline Winter, Liz Lockrem, Irene Hager and Frances Hirschkorn.
