Marlys was born on September 25, 1926 at Harvey to Melvin and Marie (Christianson) Mathison. Marlys grew up and attended rural school in Pony Gulch Township. She was baptized, attended Sunday School and was confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Pony Gulch Township. Marlys lived on the family farm with her parents and was a faithful member of the St. Petri Lutheran Church. She served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She also served as the church pianist from when she was confirmed until the church’s closing in 1969. She then joined the First Lutheran Church in Harvey. She was a faithful member at First Lutheran. Her health problems which included Parkinson’s kept her from being more active in church functions. Marlys worked for Tad and Gladys Blanding at their hardware and gift store and also for many years at Berg’s Variety Store. She entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in October 2005.

Marlys loved company, cooking, baking, flower gardens, crocheting, cats and dogs. She loved her state, country, family, relatives, friends, community and her church was always first.

Marlys is survived by step-sons, Russell (Connie) Henne of Oaks, ND, Don (Lori) Henne of Harvey; step-daughters, Tana (Monty) Martin of Sabin, MN, Teresa (Rich) Breid of Mesa, AZ, Dee (Richard) Farnham of Sioux Falls, SD; 12 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and a host of wonderful friends, relatives and neighbors.
