Helen Sprenger, 90, of Bismarck formerly of the Lincoln Valley area died Wednesday June 8, 2011 at the Medcenter One Hospital of Bismarck.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 13 at the St. Martin Lutheran Church, Anamoose, ND.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Burial will be held at the Kassel Reformed Cemetery of rural Denhoff.
Helen was born on March 11, 1921 northeast of McClusky, ND. She was the daughter of John and Josephine (Werfel) Waltz. Helen grew up and attended rural school in Granville Township, Sheridan County. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Andrew Lutheran Church near Lincoln Valley. As a young woman she worked in the Lincoln Valley General Store for several years. Helen married Walter Sprenger on June 5, 1943 in Goodrich. They lived and farmed south of Anamoose, ND. He died on May 22, 1985. Helen moved to Harvey in 1993 and also lived in Tennessee for a short time before moving to Bismarck in June 2010.
Helen was a member of the Kassel Reformed Church, rural Anamoose and its Mission Circle. She was also a 25-year member of the Lincoln Valley Homemakers Club. Helen also served as a volunteer with the St. Aloisius Hospital Auxiliary in Harvey. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, reading and growing flowers.
Helen is survived by three sons, Darrell Sprenger of Fargo, Thomas Sprenger of Minot, Michael (Spring) Sprenger of Chatham, Ontario, Canada; two daughters, LaDonna (John) Pink of White House, Tennessee, Lori (Harold) Duchscherer of Bismarck, ND; four grandchildren, Ann (Andy) Robinson, Greenville, SC, Gale Rowe, Nashville, TN, Gwen Duchscherer, Bismarck and Jason Duchscherer of Fargo; five great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Kalin of Minneapolis; two brothers, Paul Waltz and Art Waltz both of McClusky. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter; five sisters, Emma Bonnet, Alvina Waltz, Frieda Waltz, Josephine Yoch and Hilda Freeman; brothers, Bill Waltz, Henry Waltz, John Waltz, Jack Waltz and Fred Waltz.
